YHI to make alloy wheels for Enkei
YHI International has been appointed as a licensed manufacturer of alloy wheels for Japan's Enkei Corporation. This major win follows its recent acquisition of a 19.9 per cent stake in Italian premier alloy wheel specialist, OZ SpA.
Two wholly owned subsidiaries of YHI, YHI Manufacturing (S) Pte Ltd and YHI Manufacturing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, have signed an agreement with Enkei under which YHI will begin producing Enkei Tuning brand of alloy wheels from July this year.
Incorporated in 1950 in Japan, Enkei designs, manufactures and sells alloy wheels and has facilities in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, China and the US. Its main business is manufacturing and supplying OEM (original equipment manufacturer) alloy wheels to Japanese automobile makers.
YHI has been Enkei's authorised distributor since 1975 and the present arrangement extends the company's relationship from distributor to manufacturer, a YHI spokesman said.
The spokesman added that this reinforces YHI's commitment that its manufacturing business will continue to be the main growth driver.
Commenting on the deal, Richard Tay, YHI's MD said: 'Enkei's confidence in our manufacturing capabilities has given a tremendous boost to our reputation as a world-class manufacturer of alloy wheels . . . This partnership with Enkei has also created opportunities for the company to expand its position as an integrated ODM solutions provider of alloy wheels from design and development, manufacturing, to marketing and distribution in the robust alloy wheels aftermarket segment.'
The Enkei Tuning range of alloy wheels will be manufactured by YHI at its facilities in Shanghai and Suzhou in China, Taoyuan in Taiwan, and Sepang in Malaysia. These wheels will be distributed by the group across its Asia-Pacific network.
